A new and modern qualification offered by the FET Colleges

Introduction

The National Certificate (Vocational) is a new and modern qualification of levels 2, 3 and 4 of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

Unlike the N-courses which are trimester courses, the vocational qualification is a year course for each level.

The course will provide experience of the workplace environment. The qualification will also provide an opportunity to enter higher education studies subject to appropriate subject combinations.

What are the minimum entry requirements to this qualification?

For entry into the National Certificagte Vocational at NQF Level 2, you require:

  • A year end school report for Grade 9 or higher; or
  • An NQF Level 1 qualification

 

The Structure and Rules of Combination of subjects for NC (Vocational)

SUBJECTS
3 Compulsory Subjects
Communication (Language): This must be one of the official languages in South Africa and should be offered as a language of teaching or learning.
Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy.
Life Orientation
4 Vocational Subjects
These are sunjects approved from the sub-field organisation of the NQF.

Sub-field Programmes offered in the qualification

The sunject combination in each of the sub-field programmes provide a high degree of specialisation for a particular sub-field programme. It is important to note that of the 4 compulsory vocational subjects, the 4th subject may be chosen from any sub-field that will provide the student with high levels of specialisation.
